IMC Mag: "Randy, you've made some great kids songs, how did you get into music?"
JR: "I started playing instruments in 5th grade beginning band. Started as a trumpet player. In High School I learned to play guitar and bass guitar. My guitar teacher had a local variety band and had an opening for a bass player. He asked if I would want to play bass in his band. My High School band director was very influential in getting me interested in a career in music. I learned to play some piano before going to college to become a band director. 31 years later and I am still teaching band, guitar and performing music. When I was in college I never dreamed I would become a children’s singer/songwriter. I am so blessed that I have had the opportunities to pursue this dream."
IMC Mag: "When did you start to really pursue your music career seriously?"
JR: "I have been performing as Jammin’ Randy for over 13 yrs now."
IMC Mag: "What are some of your most proudest accomplishments in your career?"
JR: "One of my greatest achievements is to be inducted into the Indie Music Channel Hall of Fame. In my teaching career I have been awarded the Northwest Kansas Music Educator Outstanding Music Teacher twice. This year I was awarded the Northwest Kansas Music Educator Outstanding High School Music Teacher as well as our district Teacher of the Year. Christopher and The Indie Music Channel have helped me become who I am. (They) have helped me with the confidence and support to reach my goals and dreams. Thank you!!"
IMC Mag: "What do you have coming up?"
JR: "I just released a new album in January 2025. It is called “The Power of Yet”. It is a album with positive songs for kids and adults encouraging them to never give up and to develop a growth mindset. Never say you can’t do something. Instead, say you can’t do something YET. With hard work and never giving up you can reach your goals and dreams."
