IMC Mag: "Kristi, take us back, how did you get into music?"
KJ: "I grew up in a musical family, of sorts. My father had a beautiful baritone voice, but he only ever sang in the church congregation, or singing silly songs to my mom. My brother was an amazing musician; singer/songwriter and guitar player. A couple of my sisters loved to sing as well, and still do at family karoake night. ;) My dad started taking me to concerts at a young age, of all of his favorite artists and bands. I saw Anne Murray, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Gatlin Brothers, Sha Na Na, and more. If you can't tell, he was a huge country music fan and he made me listen to the country station every morning during breakfast and the drive to school. It all grew from that."
IMC Mag: "When did you start to really pursue your music career seriously?"
KJ: "I honestly had put music aside for a long time, at least trying to play, sing or write. I started back in the year that the world shut down. While it made things more difficult, it was a very beneficial time for me. I didn't have anywhere to go, or anything to do so I first went back to school (online) and finished my nutrition degree. I also picked up the guitar again, found a great teacher, a songwriting partner and just got started. I haven't looked back since. Since 2021, I've released two albums and numerous singles. I am having the time of my life, doing what I truly love."
IMC Mag: "What are some of your most proudest accomplishments in your music career?"
KJ: "Well, I have won two awards with the Indie Music Channel Awards which is an absolute honor. I've also worked with some amazing musicians and met some of my musical heroes. I think I'm proud of everything that music has given me."
IMC Mag: "What do you and/or your band have coming up?"
KJ: "My producer/co-writer are constantly writing and recording. I believe we have one song waiting on vocals, and two others in the que. I don't have any dates for those yet. I am still unable to perform live because I am still trying to get my lungs stronger. Little by little, it's getting better. Believe me, when I'm able to get out and play again, I will be screaming it from the rooftop. I just want to say thank you to everyone has inspired me and supported me through this new adventure. I feel very lucky to be able to do this, despite the challenges."
